A new generation of office buildings: Laying of the foundation stone for EDGE Grand Central Berlin
In the presence of Senate Building Director Regula Lüscher, EDGE Technologies laid the foundation for EDGE Grand Central Berlin in EuropaCity. Spread over nine floors, this next-generation, intelligent, and sustainable office building provides approximately 22,800 square meters of office and community space with a particular focus on the health and well-being of users. For its ecologically sustainable construction and energy efficiency, EDGE Grand Central Berlin has already been pre-certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) with the highest rating of “Platinum.”
As the first building in Germany, EDGE Grand Central Berlin also received the “WELL Gold Core & Shell” pre-certificate from the International Well Building Institute (IWBI) for its exceptional design to create healthier work environments and enhance the well-being of the users. Among others, exposure and air quality, ease of use, architectural features for stress reduction, nutrition and fitness offerings, as well as the general level of innovation of the building are evaluated. For example, EDGE Technologies is currently examining the use of what’s known as circadian light, which is lighting technology that recreates daylight quality using variable illuminance and color temperatures. It has been scientifically proven that human performance is enhanced by lighting that is adjusted to reflect the time of day.
EDGE Technologies is also committed to having these building properties inspected at regular intervals throughout the IWBI’s life cycle. This enduring commitment is also an integral part of the EDGE Technologies corporate philosophy. The subsidiary of OVG Real Estate was founded to develop and operate a new generation of exceptionally intelligent, healthy, and environmentally-friendly office buildings for the global marketplace. EDGE Grand Central Berlin is the first project realized by EDGE Technologies in Germany. Completion is planned for the first quarter of 2020.
Additional EDGE buildings are under development, among others, at Berlin’s Bahnhof Südkreuz, at the S-Bahn and U-Bahn Warschauer Straße station, and in Hamburg’s HafenCity. EDGE Olympic in Amsterdam and the new Unilever North America headquarters in New York have already been completed.
