The diggers are rolling: Construction is getting started on the THE CORE, the centerpiece of the Heidestrasse district
The go-ahead for the realization of the Heidestrasse district in Europacity: Construction work on the THE CORE building emerging in the center of the district has begun. The building, with six or nine stories and a striking red brick facade, is being built as the first building in the Heidestrasse district. In the future it will be the heart of the district as a local shopping center with shops in the ground floor, offices, practices, and apartments. With its main facade, THE CORE points to the triangular district square, which will become the meeting point and rest area of the residents. The offices of the building are located in the floors along Heidestrasse, the future Boulevard of Europacity.
Around 6,700 square meters of retail space will be created in the five-meter-high ground floor of the building, designed by the architect ROBERTNEUN. In addition, around 12,530 square meters of office space with modern facilities are planned. Rental apartments for those who appreciate urban life in all its diversity will make use of the remaining approximately 18,340 square meters. The building is set to be completed in 2019.
The Heidestrasse district is being developed as part of Europacity and includes a mixed urban district of offices, retail, and residential on approximately 85,000 square meters. The design plans for all partial-areas were completed after a series of architectural competitions involving the State of Berlin.
