Issue 05/2024 | Artificial Intelligence in Focus: Berlin-Brandenburg in German AI Month mAI 2024

May is all about artificial intelligence (AI), with over 70 events across Germany as part of the German AI Month mAI 2024 event initiative.

The Berlin Brandenburg Airport region has developed into a leading technology and research center. Since the 2000s, an increasing number of AI companies have settled here. An AppliedAI-study found that around a third of relevant AI companies in Germany are based in Berlin and Brandenburg, making the region a central AI hub in Germany. Between 50 and 65 professors conduct research at universities and research institutions in various fields of application.

Berlin is a hotspot for innovation, where research institutions and universities meet start-ups to jointly drive forward pioneering technologies. Many project ideas from the academic sector are developed into marketable products here. The close collaboration between established companies and start-ups facilitates a dynamic exchange of knowledge and technology across various fields of application, including business intelligence, process management, health intelligence, mobility solutions, and urban research.

The ICT, media, and creative industries cluster plays a pivotal role, with over 50,000 companies in 12 industry sectors, including AI, blockchain, IoT, and virtual reality. The cluster facilitates technology transfer and the development of ecosystems that strengthen the region's innovative capacity. The German AI Month mAI 2024 provides a platform for experiencing the potential of AI and networking with leading minds from science and business.
