In April of this year, the bbw University of Applied Sciences began teaching in the state-of-the-art OFFICE LAB CAMPUS at Wagner-Régeny-Strasse 21 on the grounds of the Science and Technology Park in Berlin-Adlershof. The move from Berlin-Charlottenburg was celebrated with a summer party in June, which was attended by numerous personalities from research, teaching, business and politics as well as students, faculty, alumni and staff.
Christian Amsinck, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the bbw Hochschule and Chief Executive Officer of the Berlin-Brandenburg Business Associations, opened the new location together with Marco Brauchmann, District Councillor of Treptow-Köpenick responsible for further education, and Ursula Schwill, Chancellor of the bbw Hochschule. Together they cut the symbolic red ribbon and thus sealed the official new start of the educational institution in Adlershof.
"With the move, we are opening a new chapter in the development of the bbw Hochschule," said Christian Amsinck. "The institute's new location offers optimal conditions for research and teaching. Above all, the short distances to the many innovative and research-intensive companies in the Adlershof Science and Technology Park ensure that the bbw Hochschule will have an even closer connection to business practice in the future. The students are enthusiastic, we can already hear that. The team at bbw Hochschule of Applied Sciences has done a tremendous job. After all, just one year has passed between the decision to move and the new opening."
The new start at Berlin's top location for business, science and research has been very successful for the bbw Hochschule of Applied Sciences. The environment of Germany's largest science and technology park, which covers an area of 4.6 square kilometers, offers the university the best opportunities for research, teaching, scientific exchange and future partnerships. In the immediate vicinity, around 1,200 companies and scientific institutions with 24,500 employees work and conduct research. In addition, 6,650 students from various universities and about 1,000 trainees study here. District Councillor Marco Brauchmann sees the new educational institution in Adlershof as an enrichment that enhances the district of Treptow-Köpenick.
"Our new environment with its young, dynamic and innovative vibe greatly enriches our everyday campus life," said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gebhard Hafer, the rector of bbw Hochschule. He added that the focus remains on business-related degree programs in formats that are equally attractive to students and companies. "With this offering, we fit perfectly into the dynamic environment in Adlershof," Prof. Hafer further found. "Our broad spectrum of bachelor's and master's degree programs in business administration, industrial engineering and engineering, as well as our special offerings for working professionals, help make the education system more permeable," he explained. "We will permanently develop our dual, part-time and full-time degree programs."
"The move from Leibnizstrasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg, where we were based for 16 years from the university's founding, marked a milestone. Looking back, the departure into this new era was as exciting as it was challenging, and pushed our team to its limits many a time. But when we look back today, it has been worth it," bbw Hochschule Chancellor Ursula Schwill is convinced.
"We feel very much at home in Adlershof and very much appreciate the optimal conditions of our new ideal working, teaching and learning environment."
For the guests - among them the district mayor of Treptow-Köpenick, Oliver Igel, as well as Mareike and Rolf Lechner from the Berlin project developer immobilien-experten-ag.- there were guided tours by the university management through the brand new, light-flooded and atmospherically quiet premises of the bbw Hochschule. Afterwards, they were able to enjoy the multimedia exhibition "Colors, Shapes and Sounds in the World of Mathematics - 100 Years of Kaluza's Fifth Dimension" with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Cornelius Hahlweg and the artist Irena Imanska and the artist Witold Stypa in the Electrotechnical Laboratory.
The bbw Hochschule, which is run by bbw Akademie für Betriebswirtschaftliche Weiterbildung GmbH, is one of the largest private, state-recognized universities in the capital region with around 1,200 students. Its range of courses includes mainly business administration, industrial engineering and engineering bachelor's and master's degree programs in German and English, which can be completed on a full-time, part-time or dual basis.
