A dynamic economic region stretching from the busy Berlin environs to the south of the city and right up to the municipalities around Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) – this is the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg. Its excellent infrastructure, first-class business locations, innovative technology centers and motivated skilled workforce make it an ideal company location. Be it global corporations, medium-sized companies or startups – the company landscape of the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg is just as diverse as the industries represented here.
The Airport Region Team is a cooperation of the two business development agencies, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology and the Economic Development Agency Brandenburg (WFBB) and is focused on economically strengthening the region around Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). With headquarters directly at BER Airport, we are the first point of contact for companies interested in opening new branches or offices in the region.
Our close cooperation with the respective industry experts of each economic development agency means that we can support you with all your questions regarding company expansions and settlements.
"The region around BER airport is developing into one of the outstanding business locations in the German capital region." Dr. Steffen Kammradt (Wirtschaftsförderung Brandenburg, CEO)
"We are already registering concrete settlement projects that can be traced back to the international airport. This knock-on effect will only increase because the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg is extremely attractive for investors." Dr. Stefan Franzke (Berlin Partner, CEO)
Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) has been presenting the results of its planning competition for the BSR site in Südkreuz to the public since May 5th. After three designs had already been selected for further development in a revision phase in December 2021, the jury determined in March 2022 that the winning design is the one by the architects Franz und Sue ZT GmbH with Schenker Salvi Weber ZT GmbH (Vienna). The results were first presented to the BSR Supervisory Board and will now be shown in an exhibition on the company premises in Berlin-Tempelhof until May 20th. There is also an online exhibition on a website of the BSR Südkreuz development company and the competition manager [phase eins]. The BSR Supervisory Board has not yet made a final decision on the implementation of the construction project.
BSR is planning a new building on its premises on the corner of Wilhelm-Kabus-Strasse and Ella-Barowsky-Strasse near the Südkreuz train station in Berlin-Schoeneberg. On the approximately 12,000 square meter property, a building ensemble with a total of approximately 50,000 square meters of gross floor area above ground is to be built in two sub-sections A and B. Section A (approx. 20,000 square meters of gross floor space) will house a new BSR headquarters with around 680 jobs. However, this sub-section would not only serve the BSR as an office building, but would also allow visitors to experience the circular economy and sustainability. Another office building with conference areas and retail shops for other users is planned for Section B (approx. 30,000 square meters of gross floor space). Sustainable building should play a central role in the overall project.
The chairman of the jury, Professor Zvonko Turkali, praised the high quality of the work submitted. He justifies the decision of the evaluation committee for the selection of the winning design as follows: “The independent urban figure will bring the development opposite the Südkreuz train station to a concise conclusion and at the same time make the role of BSR visible as a guarantor of quality of life in Berlin.” Werner Kehren, BSR CFO and also a member of the jury, says: “The design implements the high economic, ecological and social standards of our company in an excellent way. It presents BSR as an active designer of a sustainable present and future.”
A total of 71 architectural offices or applicant communities took part in the preliminary competition. 20 offices were then selected to take part in the planning competition. On December 10, 2021, the jury awarded the designs of the offices Burckhardt+Partner Generalplaner GmbH (Berlin), ZRS Architekten GvA mbH (Berlin) and Franz und Sue ZT GmbH with Schenker Salvi Weber ZT GmbH (Vienna) at the end of the planning competition the prize for 2nd place. The three offices were also asked to develop their designs further in a revision phase. The revision phase was concluded on March 18, 2022 with a jury meeting chaired by architect Professor Zvonko Turkali (Frankfurt am Main).
