A new, innovative research project is getting off the ground: the University of Potsdam and the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau have jointly launched the ERASER project for the next four years. The aim of this interdisciplinary network is to develop new technologies for the cost-efficient, energy-efficient and sustainable elimination of trace pollutants in wastewater.
Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hans-Hennig von Grünberg, Prof. Dr. Ilko Bald (both from the University of Potsdam), Prof. Dr. Christian Dreyer, Prof. Dr. Rene Krenz-Baath and Dr. Andrea Böhme (all from the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau), the alliance combines expertise in the fields of chemistry, microsystems technology/system integration and materials technologies. The researchers are working together on innovative photocatalytic processes that will enable the efficient removal of a wide range of organic contaminants from wastewater. The joint project is supported by the state of Brandenburg with a funding rate of 60 percent as part of the StaF call (Strengthening Technological and Applied Research in Research Networks of Scientific Institutions).
Despite the moderate funding rate, the universities themselves are covering a considerable 40 per cent of the financing; this high level of personal contribution shows the great commitment of both universities. For the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau, the project volume amounts to 1,417,623.15 euros and for the University of Potsdam to 1,088,347.50 euros. The pioneering technologies could create the basis for solutions to urgent environmental issues and set new standards in wastewater treatment.
In the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg, traditional knowledge and innovative approaches merge to offer companies a unique environment for cutting-edge research and technology. The region combines a vibrant start-up scene with world-class research institutions and established industries working together to develop cutting-edge technologies. This creates ideal conditions for industrial companies looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking environment that harmoniously combines tradition and innovation.
