The foundation stone was ceremonially laid on 8 May 2024 for the Energy Efficiency House 40 with sustainability class, where degewo wants to gain experience for future climate-friendly, sustainable and, above all, affordable new construction. degewo is creating 112 new apartments and one commercial unit with the new building. Completion is planned for summer 2025.
The project, designed by roedig.schop architekten PartG mbH and realized by BATEG GmbH, focuses in particular on sustainable materials, green energy, green roofs and e-mobility.
The eight-storey building is being constructed using the sustainable timber hybrid construction method and has an open first floor, most of which serves as a garage with parking spaces for 37 cars, 3 motorcycles and 140 bicycles. The car parking spaces are being prepared for the installation of e-charging poi
A projecting canopy of up to four meters separates the first floor from the seven residential floors above.
Solar cells on the roof generate green energy and a clever system of rainwater management and intensive roof greening ensures resilience to heavy rainfall events, improves air quality and provides a valuable habitat for insects.
Dr. Rolf Bösinger (SPD), State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building: “We need more affordable housing. This is an absolute priority. We are funding housing construction with billions, but we are making sure that what is built is also affordable and climate-friendly. Municipal companies such as degewo are crucial in this respect. They not only bring housing to the area, but also modernize a lot of it. With the Klimahaus, degewo is taking a bold step further. Here, climate-friendly new construction is being shown at affordable prices and in accordance with the quality standards of the BMWSB quality seal for sustainable construction. I very much welcome this commitment and would be delighted if it were to set a precedent throughout Germany.”
Stephan Machulik (SPD), State Secretary for Housing and Tenant Protection, Berlin: “With the Klimahaus, degewo is impressively demonstrating that it has the necessary innovative strength to provide sustainable and energy-efficient housing at affordable prices. Berlin's goal of achieving climate neutrality in its building stock by 2045 is within reach thanks to projects such as the degewo Klimahaus.”
Oliver Igel (SPD), District Mayor of Berlin Treptow-Köpenick: “Climate-protecting innovations such as the degewo climate house have a firm place in the Treptow-Köpenick district. We stand behind the goal of a climate-neutral capital by 2045 and are exploiting the climate-friendly new construction potential as far and as quickly as possible.”
Sandra Wehrmann, Member of the Board at degewo: “The innovative use of sustainable building materials, green energy generation and green roofs in the degewo climate house enables a particularly sustainable construction method that reduces the ecological footprint of the building in a pioneering way. This pilot project provides us with valuable insights for the climate-friendly new build of the future “
Christoph Beck, Member of the Board at degewo: “With the degewo climate house, degewo is combining sustainable construction with affordable housing. It is therefore an important building block for the implementation of our climate protection strategy, which has set itself the goal of a C0₂-neutral building stock by 2045.”
Nevzat Köstek, Managing Partner, BATEG Berlin: “The Klimahaus is a challenging project for BATEG, in which we can once again work together with degewo as the client. We now have a partnership-based relationship that is characterized by adherence to deadlines, reliability and communication on an equal footing.”
