John Jahr Haus completed in the center of Berlin

The John Jahr Haus in Berlin’s City West has been completed. Together with HAMBURG TEAM, the Jahr Group has realised a landmark mixed-use development at the gateway to City West, comprising office, residential, as well as complementary retail and gastronomy space. A key feature of the project is a 17-storey office tower rising to approximately 70 metres at Kurfürstenstraße 72-74, creating a distinctive architectural landmark within the urban landscape. In total, the John Jahr Haus offers around 22,000 sq m of gross floor area. Anchor tenant Grant Thornton, the internationally active auditing and consulting firm, will occupy approximately 5,000 sq m of office space from November 2026 onwards.

The high-rise building, designed by the architectural practice Barkow Leibinger and featuring a highquality natural stone façade, emerged from a competition launched in 2019 and has since been developed on schedule by HAMBURG TEAM as part of a service development mandate. The John Jahr Haus comprises approximately 16,900 sq m of office space, around 4,300 sq m designated for residential use, and roughly 800 sq m allocated to retail and gastronomy. In total, the property includes 46 apartments, comprising both privately financed and subsidised residential units. The project also features an underground car park with 69 parking spaces.

Project with long-term development

“With the completion of the John Jahr Haus, we have successfully concluded a long-term project that HAMBURG TEAM Group has supported from the very beginning,” says Klaus Heldwein, Managing Director Project Development at HAMBURG TEAM. “As a vibrant destination, the property will further strengthen and shape the City West as a prime location for both modern working and urban living.”

Light installation makes the building visible at an early stage

Since early May, the building has been illuminated as part of the completion phase by a temporary light installation. The concept and execution were developed by STUDIO SAINT BERLIN. Spanning around 3,000 sq m of façade space, more than 700 programmable lights create a variety of visual motifs showcasing changing partners from the fields of art, culture and sport. The curated selection of content is complemented by specially developed animations. The installation is temporary and will run until October 2026. “Even before full occupancy, the John Jahr Haus is already becoming a visible part of Berlin’s urban landscape,” says Adalbert von Uckermann, Managing Director of the Jahr Group. “The light installation accompanies the period leading up to the anchor tenant’s move-in and allows partners and the wider public to experience the building at an early stage.”

The John Jahr Haus is located on Kurfürstenstraße near Tiergarten, Berlin Zoological Garden and Tauentzienstraße. The micro-location benefits from excellent public transport connections as well as dynamic development in the surrounding area. Berlin Central Station can be reached in less than ten minutes by car, while Berlin Brandenburg Airport is approximately 30 minutes away.
