A dynamic economic region stretching from the busy Berlin environs to the south of the city and right up to the municipalities around Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) – this is the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg. Its excellent infrastructure, first-class business locations, innovative technology centers and motivated skilled workforce make it an ideal company location. Be it global corporations, medium-sized companies or startups – the company landscape of the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg is just as diverse as the industries represented here.
The Airport Region Team is a cooperation of the two business development agencies, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology and the Economic Development Agency Brandenburg (WFBB) and is focused on economically strengthening the region around Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). Our close cooperation with the respective industry experts of each economic development agency means that we can support you with all your questions regarding company expansions and settlements.
"The region around BER airport is developing into one of the outstanding business locations in the German capital region." Dr. Steffen Kammradt (Wirtschaftsförderung Brandenburg, CEO)
"We are already registering concrete settlement projects that can be traced back to the international airport. This knock-on effect will only increase because the Airport Region Berlin Brandenburg is extremely attractive for investors." Dr. Stefan Franzke (Berlin Partner, CEO)
Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics properties in Europe, and the future users, Mounting Systems and DHL, celebrated the completion of halls 4 and 5 at the Panattoni Park Berlin Süd on 24 January 2023. The celebration at the Rangsdorf site in Brandenburg was held in the presence of 50 invited guests, including representatives of the Municipality of Rangsdorf, the tenants, the general contractor Goldbeck, and other project participants.
With the topping-off ceremony, the final construction phase of the largest Panattoni Park constructed in Germany to date has also been completed. The property has a total surface area of 28 ha and is comprised of five halls with a total surface area of 130,000 m2, divided into 13 units, each with an effective hall height of 12 m to the bottom of girders. The German manufacturer for photovoltaic installation systems, Mounting Systems GmbH, and DHL Supply Chain, the division of the Deutsch Post DHL Group specialised in contract logistics, will be moving into the new spaces, so the Panattoni Park Berlin Süd is fully let.
“Solar energy, the segment of the future, is unstoppable and is increasing the demand for our substructures. With the completed areas at the Panattoni Park Berlin Süd, we are able to drive the expansion of our existing site in Rangsdorf forward which will soon allow us to deliver more goods to our customers and partners in a shorter amount of time,” says Marcel Merten, CEO of Mounting Systems.
Andreas Czekalla, Commercial Manager at Deutsche Post DHL Real Estate Deutschland GmbH, explains, “In order to be able to support our customers in an increasingly global market environment, we support them with innovative logistics solutions and a presence in more than 55 countries and regions. This presence is being further expanded by our moving into the Panattoni Park Berlin Süd. We would like to thank the developer for providing us space in an economically excellent region. The rental of additional areas over a long period of time is an important component of our growth strategy in the Berlin region. The additional capacity we have gained gives us the opportunity to offer our innovations and sustainable storage and transport solutions to additional customers in this strategically valuable region.”
In addition to Mounting Systems and DHL Supply Chain, the six other tenants at the Panattoni Park Berlin Süd include: Hive Logistics GmbH, a provider for logistics services and warehouse software for online merchants; GEFCO Deutschland GmbH, the international provider for global logistics and transport solutions; Schnellecke Logistics; and a dynamically growing eCommerce service provider. The site stands out due to its excellent location before the gates of Berlin in the immediate vicinity of the B96 state motorway and the southern arc of the A10 Berlin motorway ring. In addition, it offers quick connections to the A2, A9 and A24 federal motorways. The Berlin-Schönefeld airport is also only an 18-minute drive away.
“The development of the largest Panattoni Park in Germany is a powerful symbol of the attractiveness of the economic region to the south of Berlin, spanning from Teltow/Ludwigsfelde to Fürstenwalde in Brandenburg. We are pleased that, as a result of its project, Panattoni is offering six companies the opportunity to establish themselves in our region. It represents another step toward the financial independence of the Municipality of Rangsdorf and it will secure jobs and reduce the financial allocations to Rangsdorf from the State of Brandenburg in the future,” explains Klaus Rocher, Mayor of the Municipality of Rangsdorf.
Panattoni started developing the DGNB-certified project around 4.5 years ago. Since then, the developer has continuously been in close contact with the owner and also accompanied the planning approval process. The close cooperation with the Municipality of Rangsdorf was crucial to the project. Throughout the course of the development, Panattoni not only faced a wide range of challenges, like the execution of archaeological excavations, it also implemented comprehensive infrastructure, traffic, environmental and species-protection measures on site. These included, in particular, the renaturation of parks and the transformation of a 3,000 m2 estate park close to the local primary school. A species of lizard was also relocated and skylark plots were set up. The developer also supported the expansion of the local industrial area by expanding the B96 junction. This allowed the district to further strengthen the power of the region at the interface between the East-West axis Ruhr region – Hanover – Berlin – Poland – Baltic states and the North-South axis Adriatic Sea – Vienna/Prague – Berlin – Scandinavia.
Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni Germany and Austria, says, about the completion, “We at Panattoni are pleased that with this topping-out ceremony for the last halls, we have reached one of the final milestones towards the completion of this complex project development after a development phase of 4.5 years. We wish all six of the tenants a quick implementation of their processes in their new spaces and hope very much that they are happy at the Panattoni Park Berlin Süd.”
