Adlershof: Laying of the foundation stone for 583 apartments and a daycare center

Start of construction in the south-east of Berlin: The municipal housing company degewo has acquired a neighborhood with 583 barrier-free rental apartments with between 1.5 and 5 rooms from the project developer KW-Development directly at the Landscape Park Adlershof. The foundation stone for the project has now been laid in the presence of Andreas Geisel, Senator for Urban Development, Building and Housing, and District Mayor Oliver Igel. Around 41,200 sqm of new living space will be built over the coming months. The plans were penned by NOKERA Planning, who developed a sound-resistant building, that simultaneously creates quiet, green courtyards with a high quality of living. The construction project should be completed by 2027 and handed over to degewo as a turnkey project. The state of Berlin subsidizes around 59 percent of the apartments with housing subsidies. In addition to the apartments, a daycare center is being built that will provide space for 106 children.

Berlin's building senator, Andreas Geisel, commented on the project: "The Adlershof site is a Berlin success story. It is the result of more than twenty years of hard and continuous work. The work has been worth it. The state of Berlin and its partners have created a district that attracts media professionals, technology experts and scientists from all over the world. More and more people not only want to work, research and learn here, but also live here. I am therefore very pleased that degewo and its project developer are creating urgently needed affordable housing. This will make Adlershof even more popular."

The district mayor of Berlin Treptow-Köpenick, Oliver Igel, also welcomes the project: "In Berlin-Adlershof, the signs continue to point to growth. Of course, all those who continue to drive economic momentum through their work in the numerous innovation and production facilities located here also need living space, which degewo is thankfully creating here. The result is a feel-good neighborhood that is also very easy to reach via the motorway, suburban train and bus."

Christoph Beck, Member of the Board at degewo: "The more appealing Adlershof becomes as a place to work and live, the more affordable housing we will need to build here.With the turnkey project purchase from KW Development, we are increasing our range of housing at the science location Adlershof and are also creating the necessary infrastructure with among other things the day-care center,. Around 59 percent of the apartments are subsidized by housing subsidies from the State of Berlin."
