Real Estate developer Edge celebrated the topping-out ceremony for EDGE East Side Berlin in the presence of Andreas Geisel, Senator of Urban Development, Construction and Housing. By the end of 2023, the approximately 140-metres-high office building with innovative and open architecture will be completed on Warschauer Straße. This will make it the tallest high-rise building in the German capital so far. Designed by the global architecture firm,
BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group, the building has a total of 37 floors covering a total area of approx. 80,500 m2, with a functional floor space of approx. 65,000 m2. Amazon will soon set up its Berlin headquarters in the building, moving in with more than 3,400 employees.
Andreas Geisel, Berlin's Senator for Urban Development, Construction and Housing, says: "EDGE
East Side is being built on a site that symbolises Berlin as a booming and lively city like no other. The imposing height will leave its mark on the skyline along the Spree between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain and look out over the entire city. I am very happy that the building will also be open to visitors. On top of the building, where construction workers are still working high above the city, a unique view of Berlin will soon be unveiled to us on a public roof terrace."
Nicole Pötsch, Head of Investments & Strategic Development for North & Central Europe, Allianz Real Estate maintains “Everything office users now want and expect from their workplaces is encapsulated within the EDGE East Side building: a healthy working environment, strong location and sustainably operated. We are extremely grateful to the design and construction teams for turning the vision for this asset into a fantastic reality and we look forward to assuming management of EDGE East Side on its completion."
Jonathan Weiss, Managing Director of Amazon Development Center Germany GmbH, added: "We can hardly wait to move into this wonderful building with all our Berlin employees in about a year's time. The open and lively architecture reflects on the one hand the colourful, diverse environment, and on the other hand it fits very well with our philosophy of an open, transparent and diverse online platform and thus also represents Amazon and its employees."
Jörn Beckmann, member of the Management Board of Ed. Züblin AG: “On behalf of ZÜBLIN, I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone whose hard work and dedication have helped us to celebrate the topping-out ceremony here today. From whichever angle you look at the new EDGE East Side Tower Berlin – already today the tallest building in the area – it is a source of pride for all involved. Now we are entering the end spurt for the construction works, scheduled for completion without tenant fit-out by the end of 2023. We look forward to successfully bringing the new construction project to an end together with our client, EDGE Technologies, accident-free, on schedule and to the highest quality.”
Coen van Oostrom, founder and CEO of Edge, explains: "We only received the building permit 3 years ago and today we can already celebrate the topping-out ceremony for this unique building in Berlin. The fact that this was possible relies on the excellent cooperation between planning, execution, tenant and owner. I would like to thank all those involved for always pursuing this highly demanding project in a goal-oriented manner and with a great sense of proportion. With its innovative architecture, which refers to the traditional building style of the surroundings and
communicates with it, we want to set a new landmark for Berlin.
