The building permit has been granted for Hall 2 on the ringberlin project. Following the completion of preparatory construction measures, above-ground work can now begin on the future site of Europe’s largest makerspace. Hall 2 will offer approximately 17,000 square meters of usable space.
Matthias Menger, Managing Director of ringberlin, on this important milestone:
“With Hall 2, we aim to create a unique space in the German and international innovation landscape by combining existing structures with new construction. The transformation of this listed hall into a startup center and makerspace can now continue at full speed thanks to the building permit. The project is being carried out in close coordination with the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district and the responsible monument protection authorities. I would like to expressly thank all parties for the excellent cooperation!”
The listed Hall 2 of the ringberlin project is being modernized and expanded in accordance with heritage protection standards. With direct access to public transportation, e-mobility options, and sharing concepts, the campus is designed to enable more than 5,000 people to commute in an environmentally friendly, car-free manner.
"We are pleased that the future makerspace located here will be operated by MotionLab.Berlin," says Matthias Menger.
The makerspace makes the cross-sector synergies on campus both visible and accessible. With workshops, modern machinery infrastructure, coworking and community spaces, maker garages, and testing areas, Europe’s largest makerspace offers ideal conditions for startups.
With an investment volume of over 60 million euros, the State of Berlin—through the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises—is providing approximately 36 million euros in GRW funding (Joint Federal/Länder Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures) to directly support the construction of the subsidized sections of the startup center.
