European Patent Office moves to C1 - The Midtown Office Hub

The Berlin office of the European Patent Office (EPO) will move into ‘C1 - The Midtown Office Hub’ on Berlin's Alexanderplatz next year. The authority has leased 3,825 square metres in the future-oriented office building on a long-term basis. The move is planned for January 2025.

Project development and location

C1 - The Midtown Office Hub is a joint project development by the DVI Group, Formac Consult Real Estate GmbH (F.C.R.E.) and Sascha Gechter Management GmbH. The eight-storey building, designed by Faber & Faber Architekten, is located on the corner of Karl-Liebknecht-/Gontardstraße at the foot of Berlin's TV tower and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2024.

Sustainability and equipment

Thanks to its modern and energy-efficient concept, the smart building fulfils the strict requirements of the KfW Efficiency House 55 standard and has DGNB Gold (sustainability), WiredScore Platinum (connectivity) and SmartScore Platinum (comfort, sustainability) certifications. The building is equipped with innovative technologies such as a building app, a photovoltaic system and a fibre optic connection for high-speed internet.

Available space and community area

The building offers around 12,000 square metres of multifunctional office space, 100 bicycle parking spaces along with charging points for e-bikes and eleven car parking spaces with charging stations. he office space on the six upper floors can be divided into rental units of 470 square metres or more, with the flexible building grid making it easy to adapt the room sizes to user requirements.

A particular highlight is the 2,000 square metre ‘Hub’ community ground. This area includes a library area, high-quality meeting rooms with audio/video technology, a conference room with up to 70 seats, a home cinema/auditorium with almost 30 seats, a gym/fitness area, etc. he spacious terrace on the top floor offers a spectacular view of the historic centre of Berlin (City Palace/Marienkirche/Berlin Cathedral/Red Town Hall) and invites you to ‘grill & chill’ with a kitchenette and a sanitary area. Tenants can book areas such as meeting rooms as required via the building app specially developed for C1. n the Community Grounds, a high-performance Wi-Fi network has been set up across the entire area, and there are plenty of power sockets and charging facilities so that productive work can also be carried out in these areas.
