Laying of the cornerstone for new RIX building project on Glasower Strasse in Berlin-Neukölln

In the heart of Neukölln, not far from the Neukölln S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations, 93 privately financed apartments and 44 subsidized apartments including a daycare center are being built. The 1- to 5-room apartments range in size from 37 m² to 98 m², creating a total living space of 9,710 m². The project is complemented by four commercial units and an underground parking garage. In cooperation with Deutsche Asset One, special attention is paid to ESG criteria and innovative building technology. The new residential units are very well connected in terms of transit with their proximity to the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, bus, and Berlin’s A100 urban autobahn and offer many stores for daily needs in the immediate vicinity, as well as a wide range of leisure activities and sports clubs.

The laying of the cornerstone was Kondor Wessel’s first event with outside guests since it was made possible again by the relaxation of the Covid measures. Thanks to a health and safety plan, the invited guests were also able to watch the laying of the cornerstone and listen to speeches by Kondor Wessels Bouw Berlin Managing Director Marcus Becker, District City Councilor Jochen Biedermann, Thilo von Stechow (Deutsche Asset One), and Christoph Beck (degewo). On the return of public groundbreakings by Kondor Wessels, the representatives of the project partners were allowed to jointly lower the time capsule into the cornerstone.

“We are pleased to be able to realize this residential project with two strong partners in a sought-after residential area such as Berlin-Neukölln. In the future, we hope to be able to offer a very diverse tenant base a home in a lively environment. With the daycare center, we are additionally making it easier for families to decide on an apartment in this beautiful project,” says Marcus Becker, Managing Director of Kondor Wessels Bouw Berlin GmbH.

Christoph Beck, member of the board at degewo, welcomes the project with the following words: “For us, new construction is just one key to growth and ensuring affordable housing in Berlin. Equally important to us is the expansion of our portfolio through acquisitions. Working with our partners, we look forward to providing 44 much-needed turnkey units of subsidized housing in Berlin-Neukölln in 2023.”
