On the Way to the Future: ringberlin and Marienpark Berlin deepen cooperation

The ringberlin model campus and Marienpark Berlin are deepening their cooperation. The neighbouring districts are laying the foundation for a joint innovation space in which future-oriented business models will be researched, developed and tested. Their aim is to establish a 'Zukunftsort' in southern Berlin.

Innovation ecosystem at Marienpark Berlin

Europe's largest makerspace, covering an area of 17,000 square metres, is currently being built on the ringberlin model campus. Operated by MotionLab.Berlin, it will offer space for prototyping and production with a focus on hard tech and deep tech innovations. ringberlin already serves as a transfer area for research projects, including Mobility2grid, which is working with HTW and TU Berlin to test climate-neutral solutions for mobility and energy infrastructure for practical application.

A forward-looking ecosystem is growing on the grounds of Marienpark Berlin, bringing together players from business, science and society. The establishment of data centres, tech companies and network initiatives such as KI Park e.V. and the Network for Industrial Additive Manufacturing (MGA) supports the entire German and European innovation ecosystem.

Knowledge transfer and real-world laboratories

Knowledge transfer is specifically promoted at both locations: at ringberlin, valuable partnerships between start-ups and craft businesses are being established as part of the pop-up of the Berlin Innovation Centre for Crafts (BIZH). The connection between research and application is also evident at the living labs in both locations: In the Human Centred Security Lab and the Living Lab for Circular Construction. The company DATA2HEAT will enable Marienpark as well as surrounding households and neighbourhoods in the south of berlin to repurpose heat from the adjacent data centres.

Voices from the districts

Matthias Menger, CEO ringberlin: ‘Through our cooperation, we are laying the foundation for a future-oriented location where science, research and business intertwine. The community benefits from a shared, sustainable infrastructure and the respective networks.’

Dr. Christian Meine, CEO Marienpark Berlin: ‘Together, we bring different skills and areas of expertise to the table that complement each other very well. Our joint approach is to promote innovation by providing special infrastructure to address current challenges and create an environment for testing the solutions of tomorrow.’
