PANDION sells vaulted cellar in Berlin-Friedrichshain

The historic vaulted cellar of the former Bohemian Brewery was successfully sold by project developer PANDION. The new owner plans to convert the historic tunnel vaults into an urban sports facility with a bouldering hall at the turn of the year. This will give the neighborhood a new place for sports activities and meetings. The new owner RE.START projects AG is familiar with the specific requirements and challenges of recreational facilities, among other things, through the operation of the forest and sports pool in Berlin-Grünau.

The vaulted cellar, which once served to cool beer and later to store wine, has a rich historical significance. In the past, it has been opened to the public several times by PANDION. In 2022, the light installation exhibition "Himmel unter Berlin" took place there, attracting more than 6,000 visitors*. Also in 2021, PANDION invited interested guests to the vault on the occasion of the Open Monument Day.

"The sale of the listed vaulted cellar of the Bohemian Brewery is an enrichment for the neighborhood because the rooms will finally be permanently open to the public again after more than 30 years," said Mathias Groß, head of PANDION's Berlin office. "We are pleased that the new owner has found an exciting and contemporary concept for this historic location, which will invite sports activities."

The listed vault with an area of around 3,800 square meters is located in the immediate vicinity of the PANDION MIDTOWN residential quarter in Berlin-Friedrichshain. On the former site of the Bohemian Brewery, PANDION is realizing four construction phases with around 474 apartments on a gross floor area of approximately 44,000 square meters. The first construction phase was already occupied in 2022 and the second construction phase will be handed over to the owners this summer. In addition, PANDION is renovating a listed neighboring building that will house a daycare center for 55 children in the future.
