Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) is celebrating the official launch of the capacity expansion at its Dahlewitz site near Berlin. This important milestone is part of the previously announced investment of around €30 million in assembly, testing, and shop visit (MRO) capacity in Dahlewitz, which has already created more than 100 new highly skilled jobs.
This investment addresses the growing long-term demand for new civil large aircraft engines and to further enhance customer support for the global Rolls-Royce Trent engine fleet. The company expects an annual increase of 7 - 9% of Rolls-Royce powered aircraft in service for the remainder of the decade
The existing on-site testing capability will initially focus on supporting maintenance activities for the Trent 1000, which powers the Boeing 787, thereby providing additional capacity for the global network. In the longer term, new Trent XWB-84 engines for the Airbus A350 are planned to be assembled and tested in Dahlewitz.
Dr. Jörg Au, Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Germany, said: “The groundbreaking ceremony today is more than just the start of another construction project. It is a clear commitment to this location, to our employees, and to Brandenburg. At the same time, it offers a glimpse of the ambitious plans that still lie ahead.”
Since engine production began in June 1995, the Dahlewitz facility south of Berlin has developed into the Group’s center of excellence for two-shaft engines and employs around 2,500 people from more than 60 nations. As the company’s headquarters for the business aviation segment, the site develops, manufactures, and services state-of-the-art engines and plays a central role in Rolls-Royce’s strategy to further expand its share in this strategic market.
