The airport company Berlin Brandenburg has sold its last space in the Business Park Berlin. The purchase agreement for a 63-hectare site was signed with the British real estate company SEGRO on Thursday (12.16). In order to ensure that all interested companies were specifically addressed, FBB had exclusively commissioned the real estate service provider Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) to carry out a structured bidding process. According to JLL, it will be one of the largest land transactions in Germany in 2021. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
SEGRO, one of the most renowned project developers for business parks and logistics properties in Europe, acquired 38 hectares in the Business Park Berlin from the airport company in 2008. SEGRO built modern and sustainable commercial units there for currently around 70 tenants from the sectors of sales, trade, services and light industrial. A broad mix of industries is already located there, from medical technology to yacht and aircraft construction, transport and logistics companies to traditional handicrafts. SEGRO will continue its successful concept at the location in the coming years and will develop the location further with the recent acquisition of the land. Additional light industrial areas, the creation of urban last mile offers, office and service areas and the establishment of restaurants are planned.
The Business Park Berlin was developed in cooperation with the district of Treptow-Köpenick into one of the largest contiguous commercial areas in Berlin. It has excellent transport links with its location directly on the federal highway 96a and connections to the A 113 and A117 motorways as well as an S-Bahn connection within walking distance. Berlin Brandenburg Airport can be reached in a few minutes by car.
Aletta von Massenbach, Chair of the Management Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “We are very pleased that SEGRO, a company that wants to invest in future-oriented and sustainable commercial development, has acquired the land. This creates additional jobs and is a great benefit for the airport region. At the same time, it is proof of the international charisma of BER, as once again a large foreign investor sees a great entrepreneurial opportunity in a location near the airport. For the airport company, the focus in future will be on the Midfield Gardens project. In the immediate vicinity of Terminal 1, an architecturally sophisticated and sustainable district is to be created that will attract internationally active companies from future-oriented industries.”
Tim Rosenbohm, Director of Light Industrial Northern Europe at SEGRO: “With this expansion, our SEGRO Airport Park Berlin will grow to a size of almost one square kilometer. The success of our site and its popularity with companies from a wide variety of industries is a reflection of the extremely positive economic development in Berlin over the past ten years. Since the opening of the Berlin Brandenburg Airport 'Willy Brandt', the demand for our commercial space has experienced a further boost.”
Oliver Igel, District Mayor Treptow-Köpenick: “Commercial locations in the direct and indirect vicinity of the major city airport BER are very popular with investors. The fact that the airport company has now been able to sell the last property in Business Park Berlin underscores the attractiveness of the airport region. The size of the area sold also shows the confidence that SEGRO has in this location. I very much welcome this extremely positive development.”
