WBM is building a new eight-story residential building in Berlin-Mitte

In addition to more than 70 rental apartments for the inclusive and intergenerational housing project for lesbian women with a cultural center run by Rad und Tat Berlin gGmbH (RuT), a neighborhood café, consultation rooms and rooms for events and neighborhood get-togethers are planned on the ground floor. The project is to become a lively center in the middle of Berlin, in which lesbians can live well and grow old together, in a non-discriminatory way and with dignity, inclusively, inter-generationally and in solidarity. Half of the more than 70 rental apartments are offered at reduced rents, five wheelchair-accessible apartments and a shared apartment with eight places are planned, in which people with care needs can also live. The advisory and cultural center Rad und Tat e.V. will also move into the building.

The Rad und Tat project has received a basic funding commitment from the Lotto Foundation Berlin in the form of a grant to co-finance the costs of setting up an inclusive women / lesbian living and cultural center.

Steffen Helbig, Managing Director of WBM on the subject: “We see ourselves as a cooperative and innovative partner in the development of inner-city districts. After a demanding planning and approval process, the building permit has now been obtained and we can proceed with the implementation. The RuT residential project is a meaningful and enriching addition to this district in the 2nd construction phase of Karl-Marx-Allee – a challenge that we are happy to accept!”

Jutta Brambach, Managing director of RuT gGmbH: “This lighthouse project represents an important contribution to the development of infrastructure for women, a signal also for participation and gender equality. As an inclusive and solidary place, the center wants to contribute to the liveable and lovable neighborhood.”
