DVI Group acquires vacant land near BER Airport

Together with its partners, the DVI Group has acquired an undeveloped property of around 210,000 m² in the immediate vicinity of Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER). The seller was an institutional owner. The DVI Group is planning to draw up a development plan in cooperation with the municipality of Schönefeld in Brandenburg for the property to be converted to commercial use. Plans call for a mixture of warehouse, logistics, offices, and hotel space.

Karsten Kluge, Managing Director of the DVI Group, comments: “The location directly adjacent to BER Airport is ideally suited for mixed commercial use. In close cooperation with the municipality of Schönefeld, in the coming months we will begin discussing which specific uses are possible at the site and accompany the project until it is ready for planning.

The DVI Group acts primarily as owner of residential and commercial real estate with a regional focus in Eastern Germany. In addition to its role as developer of its own portfolio, DVI also handles the development of projects through the building permit stage.

The property on Waßmannsdorfer Chaussee is characterized not only by its direct location adjacent to BER airport but also by its good connection to the B96 highway. According to the 2019 bulwiengesa study “Update on the Office Real Estate Market near Berlin Airport”, the BER area is benefitting the increasing shortage of space in inner city locations that cannot meet the high demand for office space in Berlin. Commercial real estate in Schönefeld is also attractive thanks to the lower rents. However, the study does note that optimal infrastructure improvements in the area remain outstanding. In addition, it will be important to correctly position the individual sub-locations with their different amenities. This is the only way to ensure that the target group is addressed precisely.
