The Starnberg-based project developer ehret+klein supports this initiative by making more than 2,000 square meters of space available in its property at Friedrichstraße 210. Thanks to this artistic interim use, a previously closed-off space becomes accessible to the public and unfolds a new impact. Thus, Notagallery moves from one historically significant location – Potsdamer Platz – to another no less symbolic one: Checkpoint Charlie.
The name “Art Embassy” says it all: with a view toward a shared future, Notagallery invites visitors on a journey through different worlds and opens up a global dialogue through contemporary art. A wide variety of artistic forms – from paintings and sculptures to textiles – is united by the common goal of using art as a home for community and as a way to broaden perspectives.
"Emerging artists are clearly faced with unequal opportunities. This inequality is shaped by old patterns and entrenched structures of the art market. With Notagallery’s Art Embassy, I want to create a neutral space where art is not only seen, but also heard. Here, art should function as a language of dialogue, trust, and new perspectives. It is about taking new paths together with artists and supporters of the arts, opening networks, sharing knowledge, and rebuilding trust in the art scene," says Ivan Gette, gallerist, artist, and founder of Notagallery, who looks forward to a vibrant and inspiring exchange. “Change becomes possible when people and public institutions actively commit to fostering a diverse and open art landscape.”
"We are delighted about the fact that life is returning to this wonderful property with Notagallery. We are very much looking forward to seeing the project come to life and wish all participants many creative hours at this historic location," says Simon Barth, project manager at ehret+klein. “Interim uses such as this are not merely a way of filling the time between acquisition and construction, they are an integral part of the overall concept for many of our projects. Project development benefits from the exchange with art – because art is also one of the ‘urban potentials’ that our work always seeks to enhance. We hope that Notagallery’s use will have a lasting impact.”
The artistic interim use by Notagallery marks an important milestone for Friedrichstraße 210. After a period of stillstand, the building is once again open, offering a glimpse of future possibilities. At the same time, plans are underway for the building’s revitalization.
