The automotive and supplier industry is undergoing major change due to the global climate crisis and the increasing digitalization of product development and production processes. Future mobility concepts and services also require a broader spectrum of competencies beyond vehicle production.
To meet these challenges, the BMWK initiated the project "Regional Transformation Network Berlin-Brandenburg" (ReTraNetz BB). The aim is to effectively support the transformation of the automotive and supplier industry in the Berlin-Brandenburg region with a focus on SMEs and their employees. The project involves a cross-state consortium of economic development agencies, social and collective bargaining partners, educational and scientific institutions, and the economic departments of Berlin and Brandenburg.
Effectively supporting the realignment of the automotive industry in Berlin and Brandenburg
The ReTraNetz BB project comprises two sub-areas that build on each other. The first is the development of an economic policy model and a transformation strategy for the automotive industry in the region, taking into account economic, technological, social and ecological aspects and goals as well as regional industrial, digital and energy policy strategies and initiatives. The transformation strategy focuses on key development drivers of the industry, including innovative mobility concepts, product-related technological innovation potentials that meet sustainability requirements, and process-related technological innovation potentials associated with increasing digitalization.
The second part of the project is about developing and implementing packages of measures that build on the transformation strategy and ensure a concerted and sustainable transformation of automotive companies in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. Twice a year, the Regional Transformation Network of the Automotive and Supplier Industry Berlin-Brandenburg presents strategies and initiatives, takes up new impulses and coordinates further processes and joint initiatives. The project focuses on identifying the training and continuing education needs of local companies and developing appropriate qualification offerings to make personnel fit for the future. Overall, the ReTraNetz BB project aims to maintain and expand the performance of local automotive companies in the region, diversify their product range and secure jobs.
